Brown’s approval down to 23%

In Brown on November 30, 2007 at 5:31 pm

Looking over the YouGov poll in the Telegraph today, a few things jumped out at me. Gordon Brown’s approval rating is 23%. I didn’t think it could get much lower when it was 10 points higher a month ago. Even George Bush can manage 33%.

On key questions of government competence, the vast majority of those polled thought the government was poor or very poor; and they also thought that the government team was ‘lightweight.’

This poll must be the worst for any sitting government since opinion polling began; and that is not an exaggeration.

  1. actually, mr. blair matched mr. brown’s 23% performance in july of ’06, according to “the austrailian” newspaper’s site.

  2. i forgot to mention…it could be much worse: wikipedia reports canada’s brian mulroney once put up an 11% approval rating.

dare to dream, mr. brown…and it can come true.

  3. This may be true, but Blair had been in office for nine years at that point. Brown is just five months in to his premiership.

I think Brown may get down to single digits if he goes the way he is going.

  4. assuming that the metropolitan police inquiry cannot be contained or diverted, the prospect of a long dragged-out daily series of revelations does suggest mr. brown’s popularity numbers might have quite a bit of slippage ahead.
